Ray Charles, Patty Loveless
and the Osmonds have
something in common. They
all recorded a song called
“Never Ending Song of Love.”
Just in case you don’t
remember it here are the
words to the first verse.
I’ve got a
never-ending love for you
From now on that’s all I
want to do
From the first time we met I
knew
I’d have a never-ending love
for you
Regardless of how you feel
about the song (and I don’t
particularly care for it)
the premise of having
something that never ends is
pretty impressive (even if
the song isn’t).
I had heard this
song many times over the
years but it had faded from
my memory (thankfully) until
recently. My granddaughter
goes to church with me when
she visits and a few weeks
ago a couple that sits
across the aisle from us
brought Abby a gift.
Guess what the bear sings?
That’s right. The song that
never ends…no wait I’m
confused, it’s a Never
Ending Love Song. Anyway,
the bear sings it over and
over and Abby loves it.
Murphy, our Cocker Spaniel
hates it and howls until
it’s turned off, which makes
for an interesting
combination of
noise/headache.
This morning I was reading
in Ephesians when I came
across the following verses;
“And may you have the power
to understand, as all God’s
people should, how wide, how
long, how high, and how deep
his love really is. May you
experience the love of
Christ, though it is so
great you will never fully
understand it. Then you will
be filled with the fullness
of life and power that comes
from God.” (Eph 3: 18-19)
These verses reminded me
that God loves us in a way
that we as mere mortals
cannot comprehend. He is
with us from the beginning
of our lives (You made all
the delicate, inner parts of
my body and knit me together
in my mother’s womb. Psalms
139:13) to the very end
(Even when I walk through
the dark valley of death, I
will not be afraid, for you
are close beside me. Your
rod and your staff protect
and comfort me. Psalm 23:4)
And after that…eternity.
(And this is what God has
testified: He has given us
eternal life, and this life
is in his Son. 1 John 5:11)
Now that’s the kind of never
ending love I want to hear
about, put my faith in and
give thanks for! How about
you?
